P6

  • Is it fit for purpose? Explain why.
  • Are the media elements appropriate? Give reasons.
  • Does it work without errors or broken links? Screenshot any problems.
  • Is it professional? Explain why.
Iain's virtual tour is very well constructed and is very well fit for the department in the opening screen. This screen has a button which says 'Enter' which obviously implies to click on it. The welcome screen is also illustrated with a tape/movie film and runs an animation which creates the dynamic feel to the media department. This kind of animation is similar to stop frame animation and so is completely related to the department as is the image displayed. There is also a crown logo which indicates the Kingswood School's trademark as a part of this virtual tour. The colours are bright and eye catching although some clash, it could be argued that this is all the more eye catching. The font is dynamic and also interesting because it is circus themed which implies fun and the like.

The rest of the tour is themed brown and red with a woody kind of feel to it. While I would say that this contrasts greatly to the 'Enter' screen and changes the overall theme, the transitions still give the virtual tour some life. This detracts from the professionalism of the original idea: a white background and bright, sharp colours. The text is easy to read and the change of the feel sets in after progressing through the information presented.

All of the content in Iain's virtual tour is made originally by him bar one image which he edited out of another image from the internet and joined to his original in Photoshop.

There are no errors with the links. All of the links allow easy navigation to the corresponding page and when introduced to another section, a transition/animation is played either bringing items into view or making them appear.

This particular page shows a button for additional information. This link functions perfectly well too.

One more feature that could be improved are the buttons. The text used in each box is a different size and the placing is a little bit uneven - so straightening this out and giving the font a size that works for all button boxes would be a major visual improvement.

To top it off - Improvements you should make:

  1. Change either the 1st page to suite the overall theme of the tour or change the rest of the VisualTour to fit the 1st page(Welcome screen).
  2. Work on the text size in the buttons on the left hand side of your VisualTour.
  3. Make the size of the buttons themselves even so that they all line up, it will look more pleasing to the eye this way.
  4. If you are going to use sharp colours that clash, make sure you continue the colour scheme. Also, look out for spelling mistakes - There is one on the second page titled 'Welcome to the media department' in the column of text. Throughout - not 'Through out'.
  5. Some more pictures in your gallery would be nice - maybe how to get there from reception. You could do this by adding a link as you did with the course details and making an additional page which shows how to get to the media department.
